Knight School Builds Capacity for Chess in Education

The Bahamas Chess Federation’s Knight School Program was created to equip teachers and school representatives with the knowledge and practical skills needed to introduce, teach, and supervise chess programs within their schools.

The first cohort attracted registrations from New Providence, Eleuthera, Long Island, and Exuma, demonstrating strong national interest in chess education. Over 20 teachers learned how to play chess.

Building on this success, five Knight School participants advanced to the Preparation of Teachers (POT) Course, and passed and are now certified School Instructors further strengthening the pool of trained chess educators within The Bahamas.

The program is already producing practical results, with graduates supporting chess development in schools, including one graduate, who taught chess at The Meridian School through the BCF Scholastic Chess Program.

Knight School represents an important step toward creating a sustainable national network of trained teachers and chess instructors, ensuring that chess development can continue and expand within schools throughout The Bahamas.
